My December Home Reset: 12 Simple Daily Touches for a Peaceful Christmas Season

December can feel like a whirlwind — school events, Christmas parties, decorating, gift lists, and a home that always seems to need a little extra attention. But over the years, I’ve learned that I don’t need a big routine or a giant checklist to keep things peaceful.

Instead, I rely on 12 tiny daily touches that help my home feel grounded and cozy all throughout December.

These little rhythms make such a difference—especially during Advent, when I want our home to reflect a slower, more meaningful pace.

Here are the 12 daily habits I’m leaning on this season.

1. Take a Moment with Advent

This is always how I begin.
A quiet moment with my coffee and an Advent reading slows my heart and helps me remember why we celebrate this season at all. Even 3–4 minutes creates such a shift in my morning.

2. Diffuse Jordan Essentials “Go Motion”

My favorite essential oil blend right now is Go Motion from Jordan Essentials — Sweet Orange, Peppermint, Spearmint, Black Pepper, Balsam Fir, and Ginger.
It’s energizing, fresh, cozy, and instantly makes the house feel like December.

3. Kitchen Tidy & Reset

After getting my daughter to school, I reset the kitchen completely: dishes, counters, appliances put away, little piles cleared.
Starting the day with a clean kitchen makes EVERYTHING feel lighter.

4. Wipe Kitchen Counters

A simple wipe-down morning and evening keeps visual clutter low and makes my future self so happy. When I walk into a clean kitchen, I feel calm instead of behind.

5. Wipe Bathroom Counters

I rotate between our bathrooms and give one a quick wipe each day.
This keeps them guest-ready all season and prevents that overwhelmed “I should deep clean” feeling.

6. Run a Load of Laundry

One small load a day keeps laundry from becoming a December monster. Towels, socks, or whatever needs it most — just one load rotated consistently.

7. Trash Walk-Through

Holiday trash multiplies.
A quick sweep through the kitchen, bathrooms, and our main living spaces keeps things fresh and under control.

8. Check My Gift List

This 2–3 minute check-in with my planner helps me stay ahead of both Christmas gifts and December birthdays.
A little bit every day makes everything manageable.

9. Tidy the Entryway

This space sets the tone for the whole house. I straighten shoes, bags, papers, and anything waiting to be taken out the door.

10. Refresh Hot Spots

Counters, tables, the coffee table — they all collect clutter faster in December.
A mini refresh in the afternoon keeps the whole house breathable.

11. Sweep High-Traffic Areas

Just a quick sweep of the dirtiest area. Nothing perfect.
But it keeps the floors from feeling (and looking) gritty during these busy days.

12. Prep for Tomorrow

A quick check of tomorrow’s outfit, calendar, water bottle, and snacks makes mornings peaceful instead of frantic.
It’s my favorite way to close the day.

These small habits create such a big sense of peace.

None of these steps take long.
But together, they help me enjoy December, instead of battling it.
