Mid-Year Refresh: How I’m Simplifying My Home, Health & Mind This July

Does anyone else feel like July is the unofficial second New Year?
The fireworks fade, summer slows down just a little, and I find myself craving a reset — a way to bring more peace, order, and intention into my days. That’s why this July, I’m doing a mid-year refresh. It’s not a full overhaul. Just a gentle, grace-filled moment to pause, check in, and realign.
In this season, I’m focusing on simplifying my home, caring for my health, and renewing my mind — all with small, doable steps. If you’re craving a fresh start too, I hope this gives you some cozy inspiration and practical ideas.
🏡 Simplifying My Home (One Drawer at a Time)
Summer often brings a bit of extra mess around here — sunscreen bottles, camp crafts, extra laundry… you get it. So instead of a massive cleanout, I’ve been focusing on micro decluttering. One drawer. One shelf. One basket.
This week, I tackled our hallway coat closet and our kitchen “drop zone” (aka the clutter magnet). I set a 15-minute timer and just moved methodically. No pressure. Just progress.
💡 PRO TIP: Keep a donation bag or box out where you can see it — it makes it easier to act on that “I should really get rid of this” moment.
🍲 Meal Plan = Mental Peace
I also did a quick Monthly Meal Plan — nothing fancy, just some basics like BLT’s, tacos, and our favorite 1-pot pasta. Having this plan gives me breathing room on hectic nights and helps future-me feel so cared for. It’s one less decision to make on busy days. It’s also flexible, so when our plans change, so can the meal plan.
It’s amazing how having this simple list of weekly meals makes a difference — especially in the summer when routines feel more fluid and unpredictable.
🧼 A Peek at My New Home Maintenance System
Last quarter I started experimenting with a simple index card home maintenance system, and friends — I’m kind of obsessed. 🙈
Instead of tracking everything in my brain (where tasks go to die), or filling up my planner with the same weekly chores over and over again, I’ve been using color-coded index cards for my daily home to do list. I’ll be sharing a full walkthrough of this in next week’s video, but here’s the gist:
- Daily cards: keeping up with the daily routines, even without a schedule
- Weekly cards: rotate basics like laundry, trash, bathrooms
- Monthly/Seasonal cards: deep clean fridge, change filters, donation drop-offs
- It’s tangible, satisfying, and so helpful for busy moms.
🧘♀️ Journaling for a Mid-Year Reset
One of my favorite parts of this refresh has been journaling with the Mid-Year Journaling Prompts I created. These simple questions helped me reflect on what’s been working, what I want to change, and where I need to invite in more peace and margin.

Some of my favorites:
- What has been draining me or adding stress?
- What do I want to spend more time and energy on this summer?
- What truth from Scripture do I want to hold onto in this season?
It’s such a calming, centering practice — highly recommend grabbing a cozy drink and diving in.
🗓️ July Planner Refresh with Jane’s Agenda
Of course, no reset would be complete without my Jane’s Agenda planner setup. I used the items from this month’s subscription box to freshen up my weekly layout and added the Daily Self-Care Tip-in to help me stay grounded every day.
