The Great Spring Cleaning Scavenger Hunt: Find the Hidden Toxins in Your Products!

Spring is finally here, and with it comes that urge to freshen up our homes! As you declutter and deep clean, let’s take things a step further—have you ever checked the labels on your everyday bath, body, and home care products? You might be surprised to find some not-so-great ingredients hiding in plain sight.

I love a good scavenger hunt, so I thought it would be fun to turn this into a challenge—let’s go on a Spring Cleaning Scavenger Hunt together! We’ll search our homes for products that contain harmful toxins and swap them out for healthier alternatives.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Grab a pen, a notepad, and your phone (so you can snap pictures or research ingredients). Check out the Jordan Essentials’ No No List as your guide—it includes ingredients like parabens, aluminum, phthalates, sulfates, and artificial fragrances.

Step 2: Search Your Home for No No Ingredients

As you go through your spring cleaning, take a moment to check the labels of your everyday products. Did you know that your skin is not only an organ, but also the largest organ in your body? It protects your body’s more sensitive organs, immune system, and nervous system. And anything you put on your skin can be absorbed into your bloodstream in just 26 seconds! That’s why it’s so important to know what’s in the products you use every day!

Sadly, the FDA poorly regulates the skincare and beauty product industry, and many of the chemicals commonly used to preserve your products can also harm your skin. That’s why Jordan Essentials will NEVER-EVER include these:

  • Parabens – Cosmetic companies add parabens to their products to preserve them from bacteria, yeast, and mold, but some studies have linked this preservative to breast cancer, and it may disrupt hormones.
  • Aluminum – This controversial ingredient was linked in a 2005 study to be related to an increase in breast cancer cells because it blocks the ability to sweat, which is why it is used in commercial antiperspirants and deodorants. Our bodies were made to sweat we just do not have to stink! The evidence is inconclusive as well as the 50 year debate that prolonged use can cause Alzheimers. At Jordan Essentials we have solutions so you do not need to tempt fate or use ingredients that are questionable.
  • Phthalates – Often hidden in fragrances and can affect hormone balance
  • Sulfates (SLS & SLES) – Harsh detergents that can irritate the skin
  • Petroleum & Mineral Oil – Can clog pores and may contain contaminants
  • Triclosan – An antibacterial agent linked to environmental and health concerns
  • Isopropyl Alcohol – dries out the skin, sometimes exacerbating skin issues
  • Gluten – While this wheat-based protein doesn’t affect everyone, to protect those with gluten sensitivities, we’ve made sure to leave gluten out of our products.
  • Mineral Oil – It is the same key ingredient in the Baby oil our mothers used, but it’s an occlusive agent, which means it blocks the pores and disrupts the skin’s natural respiration process. A 2011 Journal of Women’s Health study reported that “mineral oil hydrocarbons are the greatest contaminant of the human body.”

If you spot any of these on your product labels, it’s time for a swap! Here’s where to look:

  • Bathroom: Shampoos, conditioners, body washes, lotions, deodorants, toothpaste
  • Kitchen: Dish soap, hand soap, countertop sprays, air fresheners
  • Laundry Room: Detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets
  • Personal Care Items: Sunscreen, lip balm, hand sanitizer

Write down or take pictures of the products that contain harmful ingredients. You might be surprised by how many you find!

Step 3: Make the Swap!

Once you’ve identified the products that aren’t serving you well, let’s swap them out for healthier choices! Here are some of my favorite alternatives:

  • Ditch Aluminum-Filled Deodorants → Try Jordan Essentials Magnesium Deodorant – A natural, effective deodorant that keeps you fresh without harmful aluminum.
  • Swap Out Sulfate-Laden Body Washes → Use Jordan Essentials Hydrating Body Wash – Gentle, nourishing, and free from harsh detergents.
  • Replace Paraben-Packed Lotions → Choose Jordan Essentials Herbal Lotion Bar – A rich, botanical-based moisturizer without the chemicals.
  • Toss Synthetic Fragrance Air Fresheners → Enjoy Jordan Essentials Essential Oils – Naturally scent your home with pure, therapeutic essential oils, available in sticks, sprays, and pure oils for diffusing.
  • Say Goodbye to Chemical-Filled Hand Soaps → Upgrade to Jordan Essentials Foaming Hand Soap – Cleanses your hands with safe, skin-loving, extra moisturizing ingredients.

Step 4: Celebrate Your Healthy, Fresh Home

You did it! You’ve taken a big step toward a healthier home by identifying and replacing harmful products with cleaner, better alternatives. Now your home isn’t just clean—it’s toxin-free and fresh for spring!
