How I Build Summer Rhythms for a Smoother Week

Summer is here! And while I love the longer days, sunshine, and slower mornings, I’ve learned that without some structure, summer can quickly spiral into chaos.

As a working mom, wife, and small business owner, I need rhythms that keep my home running, support my family, nurture my faith, and allow space for self-care — without creating more stress.

In this post, I’ll walk you through how I’m using three simple systems to create smoother summer weeks:

🌼 1. FlyLady’s Daily Routines

The FlyLady system has been a game-changer for me!
This summer, I’m sticking to three short daily routines:
Morning: make the bed, get dressed (to shoes!), quick bathroom swish, start laundry.
Afternoon: check dinner plans, 5-minute tidy, switch laundry.
Evening: shine the sink, set out clothes, review tomorrow’s plan.

These little anchors help me reset my home and mind — without perfectionism. You can find out more in my video series about the FlyLady 31 Babysteps: Watch the Series

🌸 2. Day of the Week Focus

Instead of trying to do everything every day, I follow a simple focus system:

  • Monday: Weekly Home Blessing Hour + Zone Cleaning
  • Tuesday: Outside workday
  • Wednesday: Work at Home Day
  • Thursday: Outside Workday + Errands
  • Friday: Fun day or weekend prep
  • Sunday: Family + faith reset

This gives me a rhythm but also the flexibility summer demands. You can watch more about my days of the week system: Watch the Series

🌿 3. Zone Cleaning + Index Card System

Zone cleaning keeps deep cleaning manageable. I rotate zones each week (like kitchen one week, bedroom the next), doing small, focused tasks.

This summer, I added an index card home maintenance system inspired by Sidetracked Home Executives. Each card has a task like “clean porch furniture” or “plan next week’s menu.” I pull a few each day and knock them out in small pockets of time — no overwhelm!

💛 Why It Matters

These rhythms let me run my Jordan Essentials business, work part-time, love on my family, and take care of myself — without the house falling apart. And they remind me: it’s not about doing it all perfectly. It’s about creating a life where the most important things stay front and center.
