How I Stay Organized Before Summer Break

Without Replanning My Whole Life
As summer gets closer, life starts to shift.
School routines begin wrapping up.
There are field trips, appointments, projects, work deadlines, and all of those little things that seem to pile up at once.
It can feel like the season where everything gets a little louder.
And for a long time, when life started to feel busy like that, my instinct was always the same:
Start over.
New planner setup.
New routine.
New system.
A full reset.
But this year, I’m doing something different.
I’m not replanning my whole life.
I’m keeping it simple.
Because honestly, simple works better.

I’m Not Doing a Huge Planner Reset
I think sometimes when seasons change, we feel like we need to completely start fresh.
Especially before summer break.
We tell ourselves:
“This is the perfect time to rebuild everything.”
And sometimes that can be helpful…
…but most of the time, especially in busy seasons, what we actually need is stability.
Right now I’m balancing:
- work
- family life
- end-of-school activities
- appointments
- summer transition
- and two important projects I’m building right now:
- my Index Card Course
- my Index Card Printables
That’s already enough.
I don’t need more complexity.
I need strong anchors.
Not a giant reset.
Just systems I can trust.
Sometimes a Small Reset Helps
One of the first things I did this month was switch my planner cover from my Royal Blue cover to my Sea Glass cover.
And yes—it’s aesthetic.
But honestly, it’s also symbolic.
Sometimes a small physical reset helps create mental clarity.
It signals:
a fresh season
a new focus
a reminder to stay intentional
I didn’t need to rebuild my whole planner.
I just needed something that helped me feel refreshed and refocused.
Sometimes the little things matter more than we expect.
And I think that’s true in planning and in life.
My Planner Holds the Big Picture
I still use my Jane’s Agenda planner every single day.
But I use it differently now.
My planner holds the big picture.
This is where I keep:
- appointments
- projects
- family schedule
- work obligations
- monthly priorities
- long-term visibility
I’m not trying to manage every tiny task here.
I want my planner to give me clarity—not overwhelm.
That shift alone has made such a difference.
Because when everything feels busy, seeing the bigger picture helps me stay calm.
Daily Lists Are Where Real Life Happens
If my planner holds the big picture, my daily lists are where real life actually happens.
Because plans change.
Unexpected things come up.
Priorities shift.
Especially during the end-of-school season, flexibility matters more than perfection.
My daily list helps me ask:
What matters today?
Not everything.
Just today.
That keeps me from feeling like I’m behind all the time.
Instead of trying to do everything at once, I focus on:
- what absolutely needs to happen
- what moves things forward
- what can wait
That clarity matters so much.
Time Tracking Helps Me Stay Honest
Something that has been incredibly helpful for me lately is time tracking.
Not in a super strict way…
…but in a very honest way.
Because sometimes I feel like I’ve been working all day—
and then I realize I’ve spent most of my energy switching between tasks instead of making real progress.
Time tracking helps me protect focused work time.
Especially for:
- filming videos
- writing blog posts
- building my Index Card Course
- creating my Index Card Printables
It helps me stop guessing and start being intentional.
And honestly, that alone reduces so much stress.
My Index Cards Keep Home from Disappearing
This is probably one of the biggest things for me—my index card system.
Because when business gets busy and life gets full, home routines are usually the first thing to disappear.
Laundry piles up.
Meals feel harder.
Cleaning gets pushed off.
And suddenly everything feels heavier.
My index cards help prevent that.
They hold the repeatable routines.
The things I don’t want to constantly rethink.
They help me keep the home running without needing to mentally manage every little detail all the time.
That’s why simple systems matter so much.
They reduce mental load.
And honestly, that peace is priceless.
The Goal Isn’t Perfection
At the end of the day, staying organized before summer break isn’t really about having the perfect planner.
It’s about knowing what helps you stay grounded.
For me, that’s:
- my planner
- my daily lists
- time tracking
- my index cards
- simple systems I can trust
Not perfect.
Just supportive.
Because the goal isn’t perfection.
It’s peace.
And honestly, I think that’s what so many of us are really looking for.
Not another complicated system.
Just a way to make real life feel a little more peaceful.
